What is text case?
Text case is how capitalization is applied across letters: all caps (UPPER), all small (lower), title-style caps on each word, sentence-style caps after periods, and specialty patterns like alternating or toggled letters.
Headlines, buttons, database keys, and pasted content often arrive in the wrong case. Converting in one step is faster than retyping, especially for lists, log lines, or drafts written with Caps Lock on.
When to use each case style
Title case fits short headings and labels where major words are capitalized. Sentence case fits body copy and descriptions: only the first word and words after sentence-ending punctuation are capitalized. UPPER and lower case are useful for constants, acronyms, normalizing user input, or fixing accidental caps lock.
First Letter capitalizes only the first alphabetic character in the entire string and lowercases the rest, handy for single-line labels. Alternate case and toggle case are mainly for stylistic or humorous text, or reversing mixed caps without retyping.
How this tool works
Paste or type in the box, then click a case button to replace the text in place. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded, logged, or stored.
Title case capitalizes the first letter of each continuous run of letters (A–Z) and lowercases the rest of that run; punctuation and numbers are unchanged. Sentence case lowercases the full string, then uppercases the first letter of the text and letters that follow ., !, or ? plus whitespace. Toggle case flips each letter; alternate case walks letter-by-letter between lower and upper. These rules are mechanical, not full style-guide title case (small words like "of" may still capitalize).
Word, character, line, and sentence counts update as you edit, so you can check length before and after conversion. There is no signup and no fixed character cap at the tool level; practical limits depend on your browser memory.
Title case vs style guides
Publishers follow different title rules. AP and Chicago often lowercase short prepositions and articles in headlines unless they start the title. This tool does not read part-of-speech; it capitalizes every word-shaped token the same way.
For submission to a journal, legal filing, or brand book, skim the result against your required style. For quick blog titles, slide headings, or UI labels, automated title case is usually enough.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert text to title case online for free?
Paste your text into the box above and click Title Case. Each word-shaped run gets an initial capital letter. The conversion runs in your browser with no signup. Skim the result against APA or Chicago rules if your publisher requires style-guide title case.
How do I change lowercase to uppercase without retyping?
Paste your text into the box above and click UPPER CASE. Every letter becomes a capital; numbers, spaces, and punctuation stay the same. Use Copy to move the result back to your document.
How do I convert ALL CAPS text to normal lowercase quickly?
Paste the text and click lower case to convert everything to lowercase instantly. If you need sentence-like capitalization after that, click Sentence case next and review proper nouns manually.
How do I fix text written with accidental Caps Lock on?
Paste the paragraph here and click tOGGLE (toggle case). Each letter flips case, so accidental ALL CAPS often becomes normal mixed or lowercase text in one step. For entire strings that should be all lower or all upper, use lower case or UPPER CASE instead.
What is title case vs sentence case?
Title case capitalizes the first letter of each word (letter run), which suits headlines, book titles, and UI labels. Sentence case capitalizes the start of the text and the first letter after ., !, or ?, and lowercases most other letters, which suits body copy and product descriptions.
Does this tool support APA, Chicago, or MLA title capitalization rules?
Not fully. This tool uses mechanical title case: the first letter of every word-shaped token is capitalized. APA, Chicago, and MLA often keep short prepositions and articles (of, and, the) lowercase in the middle of a title. Proofread headlines against your required guide before you submit.
Does this converter support snake_case, camelCase, or PascalCase?
No. This tool covers prose and label casing: UPPER CASE, lower case, Title Case, Sentence case, First Letter, aLtErNaTe, and tOGGLE. For snake_case or camelCase, use a dedicated programming case converter or rename variables in your editor.
Is it safe to paste confidential or proprietary data into this converter?
Yes. Conversion runs entirely in your browser. Your text is not uploaded, logged, or stored on a server. You can paste corporate, legal, or private copy without sending it to us.
Will changing text case alter my word or character count?
No. Case changes only affect letter capitalization, not spaces, punctuation, or line breaks. Word, character, line, and sentence counts stay the same unless you edit the text yourself.
Does this tool work for very long or multi-line text?
Yes. It works on paragraphs, lists, and multi-line text directly in the editor. There is no enforced character limit in this tool, but extremely large pastes can slow down depending on your browser and device.
Does title or sentence case fully support non-English alphabets?
UPPER CASE, lower case, and tOGGLE rely on standard browser casing and generally work across many scripts. Title Case, Sentence case, First Letter, and aLtErNaTe use A-Z letter matching, so non-English or accented text may need a manual review.
What do First Letter and aLtErNaTe do?
First Letter uppercases only the first alphabetic character in the whole string and lowercases the rest, useful for a single-line label. aLtErNaTe walks character by character, alternating lower and upper on letters only. Neither mode is the same as title case or programming case styles.
