Teams to Markdown Converter
Paste a formatted Teams chat or channel message and copy Markdown for docs, notes, or a repo.
- Copy a chat or channel message in Teams.
- Paste here (Ctrl+V or ⌘+V).
Markdown appears here after you paste on the left.
What this converter does
When you copy a message in Microsoft Teams, the clipboard holds rich HTML plus plain text. Saving into a .md file or a normal text box only reads the plain side, so bold, lists, and links disappear.
This page reads the HTML from your paste and turns it into Markdown you can copy into Obsidian, GitHub, or any editor. Conversion stays in your browser.
How to paste from Teams
Copy a chat or channel message in Teams desktop or web. Click the Teams message box on this page and paste with Cmd/Ctrl+V.
The left side shows the formatted message you pasted. The right side shows Markdown. Click Copy on the Markdown pane, then paste into your .md file or note app.
Why a text file loses formatting
Text files and most editors accept only text/plain from the clipboard. Teams formatting lives in text/html.
Tools like Paste to Markdown work for the same reason this page does: they convert the HTML side. Copy on this page writes plain Markdown so your next paste into a file keeps **bold** and list syntax.
What formatting is supported
Headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, links, ordered and unordered lists, blockquotes, inline code, fenced code blocks, and tables usually convert cleanly from Teams chat or channel messages.
Mentions, emoji images, and adaptive cards are out of scope. You get readable text, not @mention syntax or embedded cards.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a Teams message to Markdown?
Copy the message in Teams, paste into the Teams message box on this page with Cmd/Ctrl+V, check the Markdown output, then click Copy and paste into your .md file or note app.
Why does pasting Teams text into a .md file lose formatting?
A .md file receives plain text from the clipboard. Teams keeps bold and lists in a separate HTML clipboard format. This tool reads that HTML and converts it to Markdown syntax.
Does this upload my Teams messages?
No. Paste and conversion run in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
What clipboard format does Teams use?
Teams copies text/html for formatting and text/plain for the words only. This converter uses the HTML side on paste, similar to generic clipboard-to-Markdown tools.
Can I paste Markdown I already have?
Yes. If your paste has no HTML (for example an existing .md snippet), the plain text appears on both sides unchanged.
Does Copy output rich text or Markdown?
Copy writes plain Markdown text only. That way the next paste into a file keeps asterisks, backticks, and list markers instead of rich HTML.
Which Teams surfaces are supported?
Chat and channel messages copied from Teams desktop or web. Loop, meeting chat, and adaptive cards are not targeted.
Is the Teams to Markdown converter free?
Yes. Free to use with no signup.
